Dana White: 3 Takeaways From Post Fight Interview

He wants the Ben Askren vs Robbie Lawler Rematch

“Bad stoppage. We had a debate, me, the referee and the commission over being choked out. I’ve been choked out many times before too. One of the things that you don’t do is jump right up and say “what the fuck did you just do?” It doesn’t happen that way.”

When told that Ben Askren said that he is not interested in the rematch with Lawler, Dana says him and the UFC have other plans:

“We want to do the fight again. We’ll figure it out.”

Dana Still Doesn’t Like Woodley

He never seems to be able to hold himself back from taking shots at Woodley, even in defeat. Commenting on Kamaru Usman’s dominant performance of Tyron:

“You guys were there at the Press Conference. Woodley said ‘What are you going to do to me? I do everything better than you. “

“it was an absolute one sided ass-whooping tonight.”

“You can’t call Woodley the greatest. I heard some of that talk tonight…you can’t call Woodley the greatest. Guess what? Me and GSP had our moments, business wise, never personally, but business wise while he was here. That guy dominated that division, moved up to 185 and won the title too. So it’s tough to call him the greatest, but he’s definitely up there.”

Jon Jones Wants To Stay At Light Heavyweight

There’s been speculation over the last few years of Jones moving up to Heavyweight to either compete for the belt or to take a fight with a top contender. We have heard Heavyweight opponents from Cain Velasquez, Fabricio Werdum, Daniel Cormier (3) and even Brock Lesnar thrown around as possible opponents. At this stage however, it appears Jones is completely content with staying at LHW and taking on the next contender, as we saw with him accepting the fight against Anthony Smith. Dana has already started the foundation of Jones’s next opponent being Thiago Santos:

“Santos looks good. That fight could happen. I think Jon wants to stay in the division and keep taking on the next guy at 205.”

“He doesn’t seem too excited to go to heavyweight. I’m not pushing anybody to do anything. It’s like…you know what fight I wanted to see bad? I wanted to see Max Holloway vs Tony Ferguson. But I can’t make Tony Ferguson fight. “
