Conor McGregor wasted no time in his fight Saturday night against Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone, finishing the UFC’s most active fighter at :40 seconds of the 1st round via TKO.
McGregor came out with a huge left hand that just barely missed. After blocking a head kick from Cerrone, McGregor threw his own head kick and hurt Cerrone. That shot led to the end, as McGregor was able to follow it up and end the fight shortly thereafter.
The fight marked McGregor’s first action inside the Octagon since a submission defeat to current Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 in October of 2018. McGregor claimed in the Post Fight Press Conference that a new commitment to his training inside and outside of the gym was responsible for his amazing performance on Saturday:
So I go train (in past fight camps), and then I’ll go missing for 3 days. And then I’ll come back and it’s sporadic. And it’s on my call, and I’ll ring and say ‘hey were at the gym in the next half hour, make sure everyone is there.’ I just felt like I disrespected the people that believed in me and supported me.”
