After defeating Donald Cerrone in only :40 seconds Saturday night at UFC 246, the big question remains for the former 2 weight champion: what now? McGregor has been consistent in saying that he would like to remain as active as possible in 2020 pending his health. Coming out of this fight completely healthy, a quick turn around seems certain.
With many fans asking for a fight with current “BMF” Title holder Jorge Masvidal, UFC President Dana White seems to have another idea in mind: to wait for a rematch with lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov:
There’s a lot of different things that make sense that you could do. I need to see what he wants to do. I know he wants this fight (the Khabib rematch) and I think he’s willing to wait to get it. Listen, do I want Conor to fight three more times this year? Sure. Do I want to see Masvidal vs Conor? Sure. But, you got to do what makes sense too.”UFC 246 Post Fight Press Conference
Nurmagomedov first must get through lightweight contender and former Interim Title Champion Tony Ferguson on April 18th at the Barclays Center.
For Conor, this win marked his first in the Octagon since November of 2016 in a dominant performance over Eddie Alvarez.
