Dan Hooker Wins Controversial Decision Over Paul Felder

1 min read

Dan Hooker (20-8 MMA) won a Split Decision over Paul Felder in his hometown of New Zealand Saturday night in Auckland.

The win presumably moves Hooker into the top 5 of the lightweight rankings, and the hometown winner announced after the fight that he has his eyes set on #4 ranked Justin Gaethje.

Hooker spent the majority of the fight being stalked by Felder (17-5 MMA), who repeatedly snapped the head back of Hooker with hard straight rights and left hooks throughout the fight.

On more than one occasion, the New Zealand fighter looked to be on his way out after hard strikes, but the “Irish Dragon” was unable to capitalize on the moments.

Wrestling proved to be the difference maker in the fighter, with Hooker landing several late takedowns, including ending the fight on top of the #6 ranked Felder.

Following the decision, Paul Felder announced that this could in fact be his last fight, citing family obligations. The Philadelphia native also serves as an announcer for the UFC.
